I’m David, a game designer with a technical background and a passion for gameplay and feel! Here are some of my design philosophies:
Design takes Empathy. Empathy and understanding helps us design for audiences larger than ourselves and our bubbles. Discerning what players feel is sometimes more important than what they say, including ourselves!
Ideas come from Everyone: Design does not own idea generation. We are responsible for curating, filtering, and fitting ideas together with each other, but good ideas come from all places: on our teams, from our players, from other games and media, from life.
Players need Something to Love: Players connect closer when they find something they love. Players can more deeply connect to a game that has 4/10 bits and 10/10 bits for them than a game that is 7/10 or 8/10 throughout. Devs working together iteratively and trusting each other when they fight for something allows for the seeds of these potential player moments to flourish!
