Overview

I joined Respawn in September of 2018, about 5 months before the launch of Apex Legends. Until July of 2019, I worked on a small team with 3 other designers rapidly prototyping and iterating on an unreleased game mode. I can’t speak too specifically about the project since it hasn’t released, so pardon the vagueness.

On this small team, I headed up combat design efforts, designing, planning, and prototyping player behavior and an AI lineup. I worked with an engineer making improvements and adding features to player and AI systems, targeting combat depth and replayability. As we were a small scrappy team, I also took on responsibilities creating extensible script systems for encounter creation and spawning. In that effort, I populated a large map with critical spatial world markup and designed replayable combat encounters as well. The mode was postponed in mid 2019, after which I transitioned to weapons design for the main battle royale mode.
